Perry High School Friends & Alumni Foundation

THE PERRY COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOUNDATION INC.

 Purpose:

The Perry Community School Foundation is designed to provide financial support for all activities at Perry Community Schools. This includes academic activities, the fine arts, and athletics.

Rationale:

We believe that the education and growth of a student occurs through both the academic and activity programs. Our academic program is supported primarily through taxes. The activity program is, to a large degree, self-supporting. As costs increase, we are faced with raising money which we hope can be partially accomplished through donations from alumni and friends of the Perry Community School District.

What is the Perry Community School Foundation?

The Perry Community School Foundation is a non-profit organization designed to support the total activity program for the Perry Community Schools. The original Activity Foundation originated from the initial donation of approximately $400 from the Jim Bose family. This was in memory of Jim, who had served as a substitute teacher in the Perry School system. In November 1981, the Perry Community Schools Board of Directors officially created the Activity Foundation. The Foundation has received excellent support from the businesses and industries in Perry. In addition, various fundraisers and donations have helped to support and add to the growth of the Foundation.

Foundation Funding

During the course of the Foundation's existence, numerous donations have been received from alumni and friends of the Perry Community School District.

Recently, a number of corporate, business, private, and memorial donations totaling over $280,000 were received to assist in the funding of the Perry Athletic Complex located directly north of the High School.

Due to the cooperation of businesses, industries, and individuals donating cash or merchandise, income has been generated through silent auctions and raffles at the beginning of the new school year. Beginning in the summer of 2000, reunion classes were contacted and provided information about the Foundation. A number of alumni have donated generously to the Foundation. Some employers will equal your donation if they have a gift matching policy.

Plans are underway for the expansion of the PHS Homecoming weekend activities to include a Foundation sponsored tailgate and golf tournament.

Of course, additional donations are welcome and encouraged.  In addition, donors may designate funds toward an activity or a project of interest.

Robin Burke, a PHS graduate, is serving as the Executive Director of the Foundation.  Please send any donations to: The Perry School Foundation Inc., Perry High School, 1200 18th Street, Perry, IA 50220.

Foundation Projects

The Perry School Foundation  has assisted in financing a number of projects.

They include the following:

  • The purchase of bleachers at Pattee Park.
  • Funding an Instrumental Music Trip to Chicago.
  • Assisting in the purchase of the SkillsUSA (formerly VICA) & TSA Trailer.
  • Providing the architectural fees for the Perry Athletic Complex which includes a softball field, baseball field, driving range, and multi-purpose field.
  • The purchase of prints & sculptures and the development of an Art Department display.
  • Donations toward the development of the Memory Garden located on the east side between the north and south wings of the new high school.
  • Donations to the "Band of Brothers" PHS Veteran's Memorial project.

How Can I Help?

Immediate help may include a donation to the Foundation. A donation in any amount is appreciated. If the people who have benefited from the Perry School system would make a small contribution annually, the Foundation fund would grow tremendously. On a long-range basis, we hope that some individuals will remember the Foundation in their will and estate planning. This type of participation will provide a living memorial that will support the youth of this community far into the future
