Welcome to the Perry High School Instrumental Music Department's website. There are several ensembles comprising the program including the Concert Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band as well as various small ensembles. The department has a long history of excellent bands and ensembles. The level of performance continues to bring musical benefits to each member of the organization. The hours invested in personal practice reap dividends for the entire band.
The Concert Band continues to receive consistent Superior ratings at State Music Contest. Our Jazz Band continues to be a concert favorite and is well respected in the contest arena. Our own Perry Band Olympics is one of the premier Solo & Ensemble festivals in the Midwest, and our Marching Band and Pep Bands provide musical entertainment for our athletic events.
Many of our members continue their musical participation in college. We are also unique in that we offer a yearly scholarship in excess of $5,000 to a graduating senior(s) who will major in music.
Much of our ongoing success is due to the admirable parent support and involvement we traditionally enjoy. We are fortunate to have people in our community who appreciate and realize the importance of the ARTS in the educational development of every child. Our band program reflects this understanding.
In April 2009, the Perry School Board approved the construction of a new auditorium for the district. Additional details and information on the auditorium project can be found here.
The 31st annual William (Bill) Bell Memorial Tuba Day will be held on November 7, 2009. Additional information is available on the Tuba Day page.
The Perry High School Band has a rich tradition of excellent bands and have had the pleasure to perform for President Harry Truman, President-Elect George Bush, and author David Eisenhower. In 2003, the band had the opportunity to perform with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra.
